Baseball Toaster Fairpole
Help
Version 0.3.1beta

by Ken Arneson

I pushed live a new version of the software Saturday afternoon.

This version adds a couple of features:

  • Monthly archives
  • Editable sidebar sections

Now the authors will finally be able to get their blogrolls onto their sites.

It also incorporates a few bug fixes:

  • Non-UTF characters should now be properly escaped (in RSS feeds and on the site)
  • Fixed bad error messages on the registration form
  • A couple of other things I forget because it's 1 am

Just a few more things to take care of with the basic blogging stuff, and then we can start working on the fun stuff.

Ken -- I'm seeing encoding on the site as ISO-8859-1. Are you trying to say here that it should be coming out UTF-8 but you're encoding it back to ISO-8859-1? I see a fair number of problems with that (curly quotes inside A tags, for instance).

No, I'm trying to say I shouldn't be posting things like this at 1AM.

When I said non-UTF, I meant any character value above 127. So when I say the bed is two foot long, you should understand that the bed is in fact sixty foot long.

The curly quotes were the biggest problem; I translate those back to regular quotes. Any other high-bit characters get escaped. I'm not fiddling with UTF/ISO at all.

And right now I'm as sick as a dog, so I still may not know what the heck I'm talking about.
